On 21 + 22 February 2017 Wetzlar hosted the networking fair for the optics, electronics and mechanics industries for the fourth time. With over 180 firms and partners and more than 3000 visitors, the W3+ FAIR once again demonstrated its growth potential. So Wetzlar continues to be a precision technology hub - much to the benefit of the cutting-edge industries and to the region itself.
The trade fair has become a shop window for the trade and industry of the State of Hesse. Today, it constitutes a central, interdisciplinary meeting point for precision technologies in an increasingly internationalised environment. The next W3+ FAIR will take place on 21 + 22 February 2018.
Top marks for quality and more than 300 pupil and student visitors
Exhibitors and visitors scored the trade fair particularly highly for its cross-industry basis. There was renewed praise for the quality of the exhibition, the fringe events and especially the expert speakers. Guests were able to learn the latest information in areas such as microscopy, LED technology, integrated optics, plastics optics, optics for production applications, measurement technology, Industry 4.0, industrial standards as well as international business matters.
The number of vocational college and university students attending this year’s Student Day more than doubled, with over 300 participating. The event was designed to provide potential new recruits with a helpful insight into possible career opportunities. At the same time it also creates a promising pool of applicants for the industry.
Collaboration on the world's most power laser and international delegations
One highlight was meeting international partners involved in the once-in-a-lifetime project “the world's most powerful laser”. The ELI Beamlines laser project involved members of the Wetzlar Network funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. But other companies have also been called upon to participate in this ground-breaking development.
The regional management of Central Hesse invited international delegations from Great Britain, India, Canada, the USA, Japan and China to a business matching event. Following a guided tour around the trade fair, the visitors were given the opportunity to establish contacts with Hesse-based companies - with Hessen Trade & Invest (HTAI) on hand to provide support.
Cross-industry networking. Numerous expert partners
The Dutch-based supply network Brainport Industries hosted a get-together allowing exhibitors to intensively network with one another. To round things off, the event organiser together with star chef Heiko Antoniewicz invited guests to the W3+ FAIR Exhibitor’s Evening, where there was superlative cuisine to be enjoyed.
Wetzlar Network and Optence, the optical technologies network, were the Premium Partners to this year’s W3+ FAIR. Numerous industry associations and networks such as the EPIC European Photonics Industry Consortium, VDE/DKE, VDI Mittelhessen and Hessen Digital also partnered the event for the first time. This saw the number of partners rise to 20. This demonstrates the amount of potential recognised right across the board in the event's idea and concept.
“The bottom line is that we can once again look back on a very positive event", says Christoph Renevier, Managing Director of the event organiser, Fleet Events. “In W3+FAIR, the high-tech industries have found a base they can use to band together to promote the technologies of tomorrow. We will do everything in our power to continue to provide them with a suitable, continuously evolving platform needed for this endeavour."
A total of 186 companies, partners and sponsors - 56 of them new - were on show, constituting a rise of 18 percent compared to the previous year. Major players such as Leica Microsystems, Carl Zeiss, Harmonic Drive and Aalberts Industries took advantage of the interdisciplinary forum to make new contacts and help them to gain a good position for the future. The event presents an opportunity to “hidden champions” to show to the domestic market various products and services that are often already familiar within the international arena.
